British Made Bronze Door Furniture | British Ironmongery

Real Bronze Ironmongery

British Ironmongery offer solid cast bronze door furniture, handcrafted here in the UK. Our range covers bronze door handles, bronze door knockers and bronze window furniture, alongside other window and door hardware — every piece sand-cast in solid bronze and finished by hand, not plated, coated or "bronze effect."

Bronze is prized for its weight, its durability, and the way it ages: a genuine cast bronze piece develops its own character over years of handling and weathering in a way that a plated finish never can. If you're restoring a period property or specifying hardware that needs to last generations rather than years, this is what British made bronze door furniture actually means.

Bronze Door Handles

Our bronze door handles and knobs are available on a choice of a backplate or round rose, so you can match the handle to the period and style of your doors. Popular designs include the Codsall Lever Latch Door Handle, a classic lever-on-plate profile, a Ball Knob on Schoolboard Backplate for interwar properties, and the Cushion Door Knob for a softer, traditional Victorian profile.

Every bronze handle is cast and hand-finished to order, so you're getting a solid piece of bronze rather than a bronze-finished substitute — the weight and detail are the first things people notice.

Bronze Door Furniture

Beyond handles, our bronze door furniture covers everything needed to fit out a front or internal door in a single consistent finish: pulls and plates, letterplates, rim locks, and the bolts and chains that go with them. Bronze Letterplates are one of our most specified pieces for period front doors, designed to sit alongside our bronze handles and knockers so the whole doorway reads as one considered set rather than a mismatch of finishes.

Bronze Door Knockers

A bronze door knocker is usually the first piece of ironmongery a visitor touches, which is why it's worth getting right. Our Lion's Head Door Knocker and Doctor's Knocker cast in the same solid bronze as the rest of the range and available in each of our bronze finishes, so it can be matched exactly to your handles and letterplate rather than bought as an afterthought in a different metal.

Bronze Window Furniture

Our bronze window furniture covers both sash and casement styles. For sash windows, the Brighton Sash Fastener is cast in solid bronze for a secure, traditional fitting; for casement windows, the Bulb End Casement Fastener offers the same solid-bronze construction in a profile suited to outward or inward-opening frames. Both are built to the same standard as our door furniture, so window and door hardware can be specified together in a single matching finish throughout a property.

Our Bronze Finishes

All of our bronze door furniture is available in two finishes, each achieved through the casting and finishing process rather than applied as a surface coating:

Bronze Metal Antique — sand-cast solid bronze, aged prematurely using heat to bring out a deep, antiqued character from day one.

Tudor Bronze — aged to evoke the look of ironmongery from a much earlier manufacturing era, for properties where a heavily weathered finish is the right fit.

Because these are solid bronze castings rather than plated items, the finish runs through the piece — it isn't a surface layer that can wear through to reveal a different metal underneath.

British Made, Start to Finish

Every piece is sand-cast in the UK and individually finished by hand, using traditional methods rather than mass production. Bronze door furniture is made to order, with a manufacturing lead time of approximately four to six weeks, and each item is individually quality checked before it leaves us. That lead time reflects genuine casting and hand-finishing work — it's the same reason these pieces aren't "bronze coloured" or "bronze effect": there's no shortcut to a solid cast piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between solid bronze and a "bronze effect" finish? Solid bronze door furniture is cast entirely from bronze, so the material and the finish are the same thing all the way through. A "bronze effect" or "bronze coloured" product is typically a different base metal — often zinc or brass — with a bronze-look coating or lacquer applied to the surface, which can wear or chip to reveal the metal underneath.

How does bronze door furniture age over time? Bronze develops a natural patina as it oxidises and is handled, gradually darkening and deepening in character. Both our Bronze Metal Antique and Tudor Bronze finishes are pre-aged to start further along that process.

How long does it take to receive bronze door furniture? Because each piece is cast and hand-finished to order rather than held as stock, please allow approximately four to six weeks for manufacture.

Can I mix bronze handles, knockers and window furniture in the same finish? Yes — our handles, knockers, and sash and casement window furniture are all available across the same three bronze finishes, so a whole property can be specified in one matching finish rather than approximating a match across different suppliers.

Do you supply bronze door furniture for restoration and heritage projects? Yes. The range is designed for exactly this kind of specification — period and heritage properties where genuine solid bronze, rather than a plated substitute, is required to match the age and character of the building.
